RE: UNIONS?
Welcome,

here is my take,

Unions got their advantages and disadvantages. I used to be in the pipe trades union as a metal tradesman, then i got into the plumbers and steamfitters.

Later in the 501.

I think i paid more than i was getting paid they take too much , it is out of control there needs to be a percentage cutoff, like when the IRS takes their share.

Regulation time needs to be stepped up.

RE: UNIONS?
I agree,
Unions have their advantages, without the unions we would still have slave and kid labor and no overtime pay or benefits. Also their pension packages are pretty darn good.
But there is alot of corruption too.
I was doing a job at a shipyard building a ferry boat and I had a union welder with me that just sat on his bucket all day.
I would fit the pipe and ask him to tack it in place and he told me
"I am a welder not a tacker, you do your own tacking and I will weld it when you are done"
and people wonder why all their jobs are going over seas

RE: UNIONS?
Employee owned open shop here in Dallas,TX. $15-$18 an hour to start depending on skills, which are determined by a written and oral exam. $32 an hour is the higher end for skilled trades. Ultimately your pay is negotiable.

Bennies include, but are not limited to 401k and Employee stock ownership w/matching funds which last year were .80 on ESOP and .72 on 401k. Every year 30% of our profits are divided up among participants of the 401 and/or ESOP plan.

No Union dues.

15 to 18 hrly, is good for apprentices in the day and age. under three years anywhere in the USA.

20-25 hrly, for 3 years to 5 years

5 years to 8 years , for 25 to 28 an hour

9-13 years exp, would be 29 to 32 an hour.

14 to 18 years exp, would be 32 to 48 hourly.
non union to union.

Pisses me off when i see guys with 3 years only getting paid what guys that have 10 years or more in experience.

and they can't do their own call backs.

Putting Btu's back into perspective Wink
